Only 3 players got all the attention: Chris Gayle opens up about RCB's struggles in IPL – WATCH

Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the most popular teams around the world. The Virat Kohli-starrer side has a huge fan base, not just in India but around the globe. In the past 15 years, many players, with Virat Kohli being the constant, have played for RCB in the world’s richest and most popular franchise cricket league but have failed to win the title.

RCB, along with Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings are the only three teams to have featured in all 15 seasons but have failed to lift the trophy even once. RCB came close to breaking the jinx on three occasions (in 2009, 2011 and 2016), but failed to cross the final hurdle.

It is quite difficult to understand from a neutral perspective as to why RCB hasn’t been able to win the title despite having so many superstars in their ranks over the years. The likes of Chris Gayle, Ab de Villiers, Brendon McCullum, Shane Watson, Dale Steyn, Quinton de Kock, Kevin Pieterson, and KL Rahul, along with Virat, played for RCB, but none of them was able to help them end the jinx.

There are many reasons, ranging from players form and fitness to a lack of quality domestic cricketers, that have made things difficult for the RCB in all these years. But in an interview with Jio Cinema, former RCB opener Gayle made a big statement about the franchise’s struggles and its inability to win the title.

According to him, only three players got the entire limelight in the RCB set-up during the time he was associated with the franchise, and that was one of the main reasons as to why other players in the side felt left out.

Speaking in a segment on JioCinema, Gayle said, "Sometimes, being one of the main players, being the main man of the franchise, I am always in my own zone, pretty much. What I understand when it comes from an RCB point of view is that a lot of players felt left out. A lot of players did not feel like they were a part of the franchise."

"It was like only three players were getting all the attention - myself, Virat, and AB. A lot of players, pretty much mentally, they were nowhere within the team. So that's always going to be a challenge to win a title," he added.

Gayle, who made his IPL debut with the Kolkata Knight Riders, joined RCB in 2011 as a replacement player. He announced himself as a RCB player by scoring a century in his debut game and played for them until the 2017 season.
