Outer Manipur constituency Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Key Candidates, Voting Date, Result

Manipur: The Outer Manipur Constituency is one of the only two Lok Sabha constituencies of Manipur. It is also the state’s only tribal constituency. The area has majorly two communities living in it-Nagas and Kuki.

As per the schedule announced by the Election Commission, the state is going to polls in two phases - April 19 and 26.

Fifteen assembly segments of Outer Manipur completed their voting on 19 April while the remaining thirteen will take place in the second phase on April 26.

A total of four candidates are in fray in the Outer Manipur constituency Lok Sabha elections 2024:-
Congress- Alfred Kanngman S Arthur
Naga Peoples Front- Kachui Timothy Zimik
Independent candidate- Alyson Abonmai
Independent candidate- S Kho John
The main contest is between the BJP ally Naga Peoples Front and the Congress which is popular amongst the Kuki community in the area.

Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat: 2019 elections

In the previous Lok Sabha elections held in 2019, Lorho S Pfoze, a Naga People’s Front candidate, won the constituency by defeating his opponent from Bhartiya Janata’s party Houlim Shokhopao Mate by 73,782 votes.85.00% of the total women voted in those elections while 83. 55% of men turned up to vote according to the office Chief Election Officer website. Therefore, the overall percentage of voter turnout was 84.29%.

Vidhan Sabha elections were held in Manipur in 2022 for sixty key constituencies out of which BJP won thirty, National people’s party won seven, Janata Dal (United) won six while Congress won five, Kuki People’s Alliance won two seats while independent candidates won three seats.

India is conducting its Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in seven phases from April 19 to June 1. The results of the Outer Manipur constituency will be declared on June 4 along with other constituencies.
