Punjab police asks Amritpal Singh's father to prompt Khalistani sympathiser son to surrender

Jallupur Khera: On Saturday, Amritsar police raided the home of Waris Punjab De chairman and pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh and requested that his father Tarsem Singh encourage his son to surrender to the police.

According to reports, a contingent of Punjab police and central security personnel arrived in the morning at Jallupur Khera near Amritsar and surrounded the village and Amritpal's residence.

Locals were attentively watching the police actions from outside and on their rooftops but remained tight-lipped when asked about Amritpal or the police search of his property.

While the police denied searching Amritpal's home, his father, Tarsem Singh, stated that the police did search the home but found nothing illegal.

He was perplexed as to why the authorities were chasing his son, who was merely spreading Sikhism and encouraging youth to avoid drugs.

They (police) should be focusing their resources towards stopping drug addiction instead of following my son, Tarsem Singh said, adding that he had no idea where his son was.

"I don't know why the police have come here. He (Amritpal) had gone to attend a religious programme as per schedule. I came to know that the police followed him on the way. I know nothing more than that," Tarsem Singh said.

According to sources, a police team surveyed Jallupur Khera village on Friday evening and chatted with the residents. The police had also erected barricades on the roads leading to Jallupur Khera in order to prevent Amritpal's supporters from gathering on his hamlet.

Amritpal's fans and followers had congregated in the village, but they had all since dispersed. According to them, even the police officers returned by the evening.

The police here remained on high alert, anticipating that troublemakers would try to disrupt peace and order following Amritpal's arrest.

According to police sources, as the operation to capture Amritpal Singh began, a significant number of police officers and senior officers from the Khanna police district were rushed to Jagraon. Because Shahkot and Nakodar are close to Jagraon, a considerable number of police officers were stationed there.

To keep an eye on the situation, the police conducted a flag march in Patiala. Meanwhile, many residents were caught off guard when the authorities shut off mobile internet connections.
