'Surely The Aussies Will Pick..', Former England Cricketer Backs Jake Fraser-McGurk To Play T20 World Cup

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has backed Delhi Capitals' Jake Fraser-McGurk to play for Australia at the T20 World Cup. Fraser-McGurk reached the fifty-run milestone in just 15 deliveries in a brilliant counter-attacking innings while chasing 267 runs against Pat Cummins' team. His knock led Vaughan to praise the batter.

Fraser-McGurk has impressed in his maiden stint in the Indian Premier League. His aggressive and attractive 18-ball-65 raised visions of an improbable victory for the Delhi Capitals over the Sunrisers Hyderabad as he added 84 runs for the third wicket along with Abhishek Porel (42 off 22 balls) in just five overs.

Signed as a replacement player for the Delhi franchise, Fraser-McGurk smacked a half-century in his very first match. The batter has impressed one and all with his sheer ability to hit the ball for fours and has continued that run in his third straight match.

"Surely the Aussies will pick Jake Fraser-Mcgurk for the T20 World Cup," Vaughan tweeted.

Fraser-McGurk etched his name into the IPL record books in Delhi on Saturday. The Aussie prodigy smashed the fastest half-century for Delhi in IPL history, achieving this milestone in just 15 deliveries during a high-octane clash against Hyderabad.

This feat surpassed the previous record held by Chris Morris, who scored a 17-ball half-century against the now-defunct Gujarat Lions in 2016 at the same venue.

Stepping in as a replacement for the injured Lungi Ngidi, Fraser-McGurk has proven his mettle as one of the most exciting young talents in international cricket. In his debut IPL season in 2024, he has already amassed 140 runs from just three matches.

During the game against Hyderabad, where Delhi faced a daunting target of 267, Fraser-McGurk unleashed a barrage of shots right from the outset. He blazed his way to 65 runs off 18 deliveries, decorated with five fours and seven towering sixes.

Fraser-McGurk stitched together a crucial 84-run partnership with Abhishek Porel for the third wicket, further stabilising the innings. His prowess isn't confined to the T20 format; he holds the record for the fastest hundred in List A cricket.

Once Fraser-McGurk was gone, Delhi went off the boil and they were all-out for 199 in 19.1 overs. T Natarajan's superb use of slower bouncers and figures of 4/19 went a long way to ensure that Hyderabad are now second behind the Rajasthan Royals (12 points) in the points table with 10 points.
