The Race For The Palme d'Or: Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha Head to Cannes!

Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light starring Kani Kusruthi and Divya Prabha in the lead roles made history on Thursday as the first Indian title in 30 years to secure a spot in the esteemed Competition section of the Cannes Film Festival.

It will compete for the coveted top prize, the Palme d'Or.

The film is set in Mumbai and narrates the tale of two migrant Malayali nurses navigating through their lives, breaking the shackles of a collective consciousness that women are often bound with.

The movie features Kani Kusruti (Maharani, Biryani, Poacher, Eswaran Sakshiyayi), Divya Prabha (Malik) and Hridhu Haroon in important roles.

Sharing the news on her Instagram, Kani wrote: "Payal Kapadia's 'All We Imagine As Light' to premiere at 77th Cannes Film Festival to compete for the Palme d'Or. So proud to be part of this beautiful, incredible, kindest crew and cast. Cookeraaa!! Just an inside joke for us. Could not tag more than 20 people. There is a lot more minds worked behind this film. Thinking of each and everyone."

More About All We Imagine As Light:
All We Imagine As Light is an Indo-French production, produced by the French-based company Petit Chaos, and Indian production companies Another Birth, Chalk & Cheese, and Dojo Films. All We Imagine As Light will be presented under the main segment alongside 19 other highly anticipated international films.

The announcement was made during the annual traditional press meet on Thursday in the presence of Iris Knobloch, President of the Festival de Cannes, and Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate. Besides Kapadia, British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri's Santosh will also be showcased at the 77th edition of the film gala.

The last Indian film to compete at the Cannes Film Festival was the Malayalam film Swaham, Shaji N Karun’s directorial, which was in competition at the film festival in 1994.
