Viral Video: Man Spends Four Hours Submerged in Ice to Break Guiness World Record

Trending News: Get ready to be amazed by a story of icy endurance! Lukasz Szpunar, a man from Poland, has made history by standing in a box of ice for over four hours. At 53 years old, Lukasz smashed the record for the longest time spent fully submerged in ice, clocking in at an impressive 4 hours and 2 minutes, beating the previous record by a whopping 50 minutes.

To achieve this extraordinary feat, Lukasz had to keep all parts of his body except his head and neck submerged in ice throughout the entire attempt. He was only allowed to wear swimming trunks and a mouthguard to protect his teeth from chattering.

Lukasz shared that he felt discomfort at the start, which eventually faded, only to return towards the end. Throughout the challenge, his body temperature and consciousness were closely monitored. Once he surpassed the unprecedented four-hour mark, safety stewards decided to end the record attempt.

His motivation? Lukasz's love for “walruses,” a term used for cold-exposure enthusiasts. He was inspired to break this record after being a runner-up at the Polish Walrus Championships, where he sat in near-freezing water for over four hours. “Extreme challenges make me feel alive,” he shared.

Aside from his icy exploits, Lukasz is also involved in charitable endeavors. He co-organizes the ‘Lake of Angels’ campaign, where he and fellow enthusiasts take a monthly dip in Lake Tarnobrzeg at sunrise, donating to the House of Angels Hospice for children with cancer.

The record for the longest duration fully submerged in ice has been closely watched since 2000 when extreme athlete Wim “The Iceman” Hof achieved a time of 30 minutes. While the record has changed hands over the years, Poland has recently dominated, with the last three male record holders and the current female record holder hailing from the country.
