WATCH: Indian diaspora protests outside BBC headquarters in London over controversial documentary on PM Modi

London: The Indian diaspora on Sunday protested against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) at their headquarters in Portland Place over the documentary "India: The Modi Question" on PM Narendra Modi. The protesters were holding placards against the media house.

The video of the protest also surfaced online.

The BBC aired a two-part documentary earlier this month about PM Modi criticising his tenure as Gujarat chief minister during the state's revolts in 2002. After its release, the documentary sparked outrage in India.

Here is the video of the protest:

After the first episode of the documentary was released, India denounced it as a "propaganda piece" that is designed to push a discredited narrative. The second part of the documentary was released on January 24.

The Center also directed social media platforms like Twitter and YouTube to block links to the documentary in India. Notably, the opposition parties are attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the centre for blocking the documentary in India.

In spite of the government's direction, student associations from various educational institutions, including Delhi University, the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), organised the screening of the controversial documentary.

Meanwhile, the Indian diaspora held a protest on Saturday against the BBC documentary series "India: The Modi Question" at Fremont in the San Francisco Bay area of California in the United States. About 50 members, under the banner "Indian Diaspora," chanted slogans and marched through the streets of Fremont in the San Francisco area.
