The assembly elections in Karnataka are scheduled to take place in May this year. However, the Election Commission has not announced the poll dates so far. Notably, this time, the Congress is contesting the Karnataka elections alone.

On Saturday, Shivakumar exuded confidence in winning the assembly polls. "No alliance with anyone. We are going alone. We are fighting alone. We will come to power alone," the KPCC president told news agency ANI. The Congress is yet to release the first list of its candidates for the upcoming assembly polls in Karnataka

After the 2018 assembly polls, a coalition of Janata Dal (Secular) and the Congress formed the state government in Karnataka. However, the JDS-Congress government collapsed in July 2019 and the BJP came to the power.
