Welcome step to fight COVID-19, but won't give MP funds of my area to PM relief fund: AIMIM's Imtiyaz Jaleel

Aurangabad: At a time when the country is reeling under the coronavirus outbreak, Aurangabad Lok Sabha MP Imtiyaz Jaleel has refused to give his local area development funds to tackle the COVID-19 outbreak. He said the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund was meant for the development fo his constituency.

Imtiyaz Jaleel is also the Maharashtra chief of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

He said he was approached by the Union Urban Development ministry today to handing over the funds to Prime Minister's relief fund in the wake of rising cases of the deadly virus in the country. However, the AIMIM leader said he won't give the funds as he would use them to solve his constituency problems.

"I had got a call from the Union Urban Development ministry today about handing over funds to the PM Relief Fund. I welcome the steps taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fight the novel coronavirus outbreak. But the MP fund is for constituency development," news agency PTI quoted Jaleel as saying.

Adding that he would hand over a letter about his funds to the district and state administration in a day or two.
