Woman strangled to death in Jabalpur, husband arrested

Jabalpur: A patwari was sent to jail for strangling his wife to death and disposing of her body in a dam in Jabalpur, on Friday.

Kundam police station in charge, Anup Namdeo said that the incident took place on April 22 night in Chaurai village. The accused Ranjit Marko, who is posted as a patwari in Shahpura of Dindori district, had a brawl with his wife Sarla Marko.

Ranjit strangulated Sarla at around 11pm. After murdering her, he stuffed her body in a gunny bag and threw it near Sitapur dam. But Ranjit sensed some movement at the site, following which he hid the bag in the bushes near the dam and returned home, Namdeo said.

The next morning, he approached the police and reported that his wife had gone missing. On the same night, the accused again went to the site where he had hidden Sarla’s body. He took out the body and threw it in the dam, police said.

Based on the evidence, police rounded up and interrogated the accused, after which he admitted killing his wife and throwing the body in the dam.

Police recovered the body on Thursday and booked the accused for murder. He was produced before the court and was sent to jail on Friday.
