BJP's Nayagarh nominee owns watches worth ₹23.95L

Bhubaneswar: The queen of Nayagarh royal family and former Lok Sabha member, Pratyusha Rajeshwari Singh (53), who is BJP nominee for Nayagarh assembly seat, possesses six watches worth Rs 23.95 lakh and four weapons valued at Rs 57.59 lakh.

In her poll affidavit submitted to the Election Commission on Friday, Singh declared that she owns an Omega constellation watch worth Rs 1 lakh, Rolex diamond watch worth Rs 7 lakh, two Omega watches worth Rs 3.75 lakh and Rs 1.2 lakh and two Rolex watches worth Rs 7 lakh and Rs 4 lakh.

She showed the value of her 12-bore rifle at Rs 5 lakh, colt.45 commander to be Rs 23 lakh, colt.45-1911 model at Rs 25 lakh and colt-32 weapon at Rs 4.5 lakh.

Singh, who was elected to the Lok Sabha on a BJD ticket from Kandhamal in a byelection in October 2014 following the death of her MP husband Hemendra Singh, also owns a fleet of 14 expensive vehicles worth around Rs 4 crore.

Her affidavit showed she owns 3.5 kg jewellery worth around Rs 2.1 crore. The gross total value of her movable assets is pegged at nearly Rs 8 crore and immovable property at nearly Rs 40.46 crore.

In her affidavit submitted during the filing of nomination for the byelection in Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat in 2014, she had then showed the gross value of her movable assets to be Rs 3.17 crore. She did not possess any immovable assets in 2014. She had then owned only three watches worth Rs 11.75 lakh and two weapons worth Rs 8 lakh. Her late husband then possessed many watches and weapons. Sources said she subsequently inherited a bulk of the assets from her late husband.

Quitting BJD, Singh joined BJP ahead of 2019 elections after she was denied renomination from the Kandhamal parliamentary seat that she represented following her husband’s death.

On Thursday, Nayagarh police arrested a man for allegedly circulating Singh’s morphed image on social media. The accused was identified as Ramakanta Panda (28) alias Jitu, a resident of Itamati in Nayagarh district. The police action followed a complaint lodged by a supporter of Singh, whose face was shown on the body of another character, displaying obscenity and tarnishing her image.
