Siddharth to run for assembly on Congress ticket, brother in BJD for LS

BHUBANESWAR: Congress on Saturday released names of three more Lok Sabha and 16 assembly candidates. Among the notable candidates is Siddharth Routray, a mountaineer, who will fight from Nimapara assembly constituency. Interestingly, Siddharth’s younger brother, Manmath Routray, is BJD candidate for Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat.

The sibling rivalry adds an intriguing dimension to the electoral battle. As the brothers will campaign for their respective parties, it remains to be seen how the voters will respond to this unique situation. Earlier this week, Congress expelled their father, Jatni MLA Suresh Routray, from the party because he campaigned for his younger son, Manmath.

Former chief minister Hemananda Biswal’s daughter Amita Biswal got a Congress ticket from Jharsuguda assembly segment. In 2019, she had unsuccessfully contested from Sundargarh assembly seat.

Former MLA Shipra Mallick, who left BJD recently and joined Congress, has been fielded from Kendrapada assembly seat. Sonali Sahoo, who had left BJP and joined Congress, got a ticket from Khurda assembly seat.

Congress replaced three assembly candidates. Sarat Kumar Pradhan will contest from Kantamal in place of Manoj Acharya, Krushna Sagaria will run from Jayadev replacing Jayant Bhoi while Sanjaya Mandal will fight from Kabisuryanagar in place of Bipin Bihari Swain.

Dulal Chandra Pradhan, a sports administrator, has been fielded by the grand old party from Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat. Dulal joins the big fight against BJP’s Dharmendra Pradhan and BJD’s Pranab Prakash Das.
