DMDK urges TN govt to ban use of liquid nitrogen in food

CHENNAI: DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth on Friday urged Tamil Nadu govt to ban use of liquid nitrogen in food products.

In a statement, Premalatha said liquid nitrogen-mixed food was being used in parties, marriage functions and exhibitions to attract the attention of children. “It is being used in beeda and biscuits.
It is very dangerous,” she said.

Liquid nitrogen causes irritation to skin if it comes into contact with it (skin). If a small drop enters the eye, it can cause irritation and can even affect the cornea. It could create pores on the tongue. “It can become life-threatening in some situations,” she said.

“Parents should ensure that their children do not consume food containing liquid nitrogen,” she said.
