Statehood Day of Goa celebrated at Raj Bhavan

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi during the Goa statehood day celebration at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday said that despite the stunning diversity of India, there is ignorance about the cultural richness of the country.

The Governor said that the celebration of statehood offers an opportunity to celebrate, to get to know the people, the land, customs and culture.

“People from different parts of the country have lived in Tamil Nadu for centuries, making it their home, while retaining the uniqueness of their own culture. This is the beauty of our country,” he said.

The governor said that the people of Goa moved out due to the atrocities committed by the Portuguese.

He said the period of the 17th and 18th centuries were the worst for the people of Goa, where thousands and thousands of people suffered inquisition, were burned, and declared heretics.
