2% of stamp duty, power bill for panchayats: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar

Chandigarh: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday said that his government will allocate 2% of its revenue collection from stamp duty and electricity bills to development works in the panchayats.

Breaking this news to the newly elected panches, sarpanches, block samiti members, and zila parishad representatives in their online swearing-in ceremony, Khattar asked them to work for five years without any discrimination.

He told them: “Consider all the constituents as your family. The panchayat is a village government. On the lines of the Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha sessions; the zila parishads and panchayats should also assemble for one or two days to debate public issues.”

At the ceremony, 6,200 sarpanches, 60,133 panches, 3,081 block samiti members, and 411 zila parishad representatives were administered oath by the DCs and gram sanrakshaks after the CM’s virtual address. Khattar said: “It’s the first time when elected members of panchayati raj institutions have taken oath individually. They must understand the words ‘duty’, ‘Constitution’, and ‘without fear and discrimination’ written in it. If they remember this oath, they will do a good job.”
