In recent times, a lot has been said and written about the need to put focus on emotional wellbeing. Through her experience as an expressive arts therapist, Deepa Mahesh found that all aspects of life are interrelated. When people went to her for some physical issue, Deepa usually found an emotional aspect to the problem, and vice versa. “There is a need for people to see their whole selves, so that healing can happen at all levels — physical, emotional, thought and spiritual,” says Deepa. This is why she felt that the time was right to host Bengaluru’s first wellness festival, which will take place on December 15 at Montford Spirituality Centre.
The day-long festival brings together wellness experts from various fields. So, there will be workshops on eurythmy , playback theatre , inner-child healing, tai chi, nutrition, conscious parenting, music, storytelling and dance. What made Deepa pick such a wide range of activities? “I looked at all the practices that gave me wellness. I have been working on myself for many years and found that movement and dance was a very important proponent. Similarly, when people struggle with parenting, it affects their spiritual and emotional wellbeing. All of us have an inner child, which leaves us with some wounds, and connecting with our inner child can free us up emotionally. When there is music, your body automatically moves, so the music and dance sessions will help people expand their emotional repertoire and move in such a way that they experience blissful freedom,” explains Deepa.
What is interesting is that the event is not ticketed and people can pay whatever they feel like at the end of the day — or nothing at all, if they so wish.
