Anticipatory bail plea of Bam rejected

Indore: A sessions court on Friday rejected anticipatory bail plea of Akshay Kanti Bam against whom a trial court had added charges of attempted murder in a 17-year-old case.

Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar Sharma rejected the bail plea, while observing that the trial court orders did not indicate any immediate arrest of the petitioner.

The chargesheet was produced in 2014 and the trial court had granted bail to the accused. But at that time attempted murder charges were not imposed.

After imposition of the charges under IPC 307 on April 24, the trial court had not cancelled the earlier security, the judge observed adding the court had also not issued any summon or warrant against the petitioner. Bam had moved the sessions court after the trial court added the attempted murder charges on the basis of witness statements in a case of land dispute against him, his father and others under Sections 323, 294, 506, 336, 147, 148 and 149 of IPC.

Bam and others were accused of beating up labourers working at an agriculture field, which they claimed was purchased by them.

After the fresh attempted murder charges were framed against him, Bam had withdrawn his nomination as Congress candidate from Indore Lok Sabha seat and subsequently joined BJP. TNN
