Bihar CM Nitish Kumar backstabbed BJP to pursue PM ambition: Amit Shah

PURNIA: Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday claimed that Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has no principle, and he backstabbed the BJP and joined hands with RJD chief Lalu Prasad to pursue his prime ministerial ambitions.

On his maiden visit to Bihar after Nitish dumped the BJP and formed the Mahagathbandhan government with RJD and Congress in August, the senior BJP functionary lashed out at Nitish, while predicting a Mahagathbandhan rout in 2024 Lok Sabha and 2025 state polls in Bihar.

"In order to pursue his prime ministerial ambitions, Nitish babu, who was born with anti-Congress politics, stabbed it in its back and today he is sitting in the lap of RJD and Congress," Shah said, while addressing a massive crowd at the Indira Gandhi stadium at Purnia in northeast Bihar.

Shah said Nitish Kumar betrayed the BJP and went to Lalu Prasad for pursuing his prime ministerial ambitions. "Lalu ji, you remember one thing clearly that tomorrow he (Nitish) will dump you and sit in the lap of Congress," said Shah, adding that Nitish does not have any political ideology.

Nitish betrayed people for personal political interest, right from early stages of his political career, said Shah, as he singled out Nitish during his entire speech.

"First, he went to the camp of Choudhary Devi Lal (former deputy prime minister) in the Janata Party, then he betrayed his mentor and noted socialist leader George Fernandes by taking over Samata Party. Then he betrayed Sharad Yadav ji, after which he first betrayed BJP, then Jitan Ram Manjhi, then Ram Vilas Paswan and again he betrayed Lalu ji and came to BJP," Shah said.

Shah lists Centre’s funds for Seemanchal projects
“ He can abandon socialism and indulge in caste politics by sitting in the lap of Lalu ji. He can also leave socialism to join hands with Maoists (Left parties). And he can also leave RJD to come with BJP. He has only one policy of being intact with the chair,” the union home minister said. He asked the audience whether Nitish can become prime minister by changing allies for his obsession with power, to which they replied ‘No’. Shah went on to say that the Nitish government was contemplating imposing a ban on CBI in Bihar under pressure from Lalu Prasad.

Addressing the Jan Bhavana Sabha, he also raked up the issue of infiltration in the bordering districts and said people in Seemanchal region should not be afraid as the Modi government at the Centre is alert to keep them protected. Elaborating on the central government projects for Seemanchal region, Shah said the Centre had given Rs1,000 crore for national highways, Rs650 crore for doubling PurniaKhagaria NH, Rs250 crore for Kishanganj bypass, Rs1,000 crore for opening APJ Abdul Kalam Agriculture College, Rs1,900 crore for a bridge over Ganga near Manihari (Katihar) and Rs45,000 crore for Khagaria-Supaul rail division. “In 2015, PM Narendra Modi had announced Rs 1.25 lakh crore Bihar package. After seven years, I am accounting for Rs1.35 lakh crore expenses for Bihar....Can Nitish give account for his works,” Shah asked.

“Modi ji provided jobs to lakhs of people in Bihar. Electricity has been provided to 100% houses. Lakhs of LPG gas cylinders have been provided for the convenience of women. The Modi government has also provided toilets to every house, besides free ration of 5kg per person per month was provided for a period of two years after Covid19 pandemic,” Shah said. Shah claimed that BJP showed a big heart in 2020 by making Nitish the CM despite having half the number of seats as compared to BJP. “It was done only because Modi ji had given his words that we will form the government under Nitish ji,” he said.

Shah virtually blew the poll bugle in Bihar and called upon people of the state to vote for Narendra Modi-led NDA in 2024 general elections and 2025 state assembly elections. He claimed that the people of Bihar will rout the Lalu-Nitish duo in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “We are going to form the government in Bihar by winning the 2025 assembly elections with full majority. This time lotus will bloom in Bihar,” he said. Shah said: “When I have come here, Lalu and Nitish have got pain in their stomach. They are saying I have come for infighting (in society). Lalu ji, you are sufficient to cause infighting. You have done this throughout your life.
