Heatwave threat: IMD issues orange alert in Kerala's Palakkad

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Palakkad district in Kerala on Monday, warning of a potential heatwave in the area.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) also reported that the IMD had issued a yellow alert for certain regions in Kollam and Thrissur districts, indicating the possibility of extreme heat and the risk of a heatwave.


According to the IMD's forecast, temperatures in Palakkad district are expected to reach up to 41 degrees Celsius between April 29 and May 3.

Similarly, Kollam and Thrissur districts may experience temperatures as high as 40 degrees Celsius during the same period.

The KSDMA statement also mentioned that Kozhikode district might witness temperatures rising to 39 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

The meteorological department uses four colour codes - green (no action needed), yellow (watch and stay updated), orange (be prepared) and red (take action) - for weather warning.
