Jalna police station chief attached to control room

AURANGABAD: An assistant inspector, serving as the head of the Ashti police station in Jalna district, has been attached to the police control room after an audio clip - in which he can allegedly be heard abusing complainants and even assaulting them - made it to the social media.

The officer can also be heard abusing an elected representative.

The elected representative's supporters registered a strong objection and reached out to Jalna superintendent of police Akshay Shinde .

When contacted, Shinde said, "The allegations against the officer are extremely serious. We have attached him to the police control room and a departmental inquiry has been ordered against him."

Officer said the sub-divisional police officer heading the Partur division has been tasked with conducting a time-bound departmental inquiry and submitting the report.

Shinde said appropriate action will be taken against the officer depending on the report.

Authorities maintained that the alleged incident took place on November 28, when the officer allegedly beat the complainants (belonging to a particular community) who had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint against people who had allegedly barged into their locality and pelted stones.

The complainants had alleged that seven people had been to the police to lodge a complaint, but instead of taking cognizance, they were made to sit at the police station for the entire day on the pretext of the computer not fuctioning.

Later in the evening, the officer returned to the police station and started insisting that the complainants withdraw their complaint. It was after they refused to step back, that he allegedly started assaulting them.

The audio of the same was recorded by one of the people present at the police station and it was shared on social media.
