Kolkata Municipal Corporation to begin anti-dengue drive for next year from January

Kolkata: Come January, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation vector-control department will launch an anti-dengue campaign in areas that have recorded maximum number of dengue cases this year.

Mayor Firhad Hakim on Saturday held a meeting with the councillors and asked them to coordinate with civic officials in conducting an awareness drive in areas under boroughs X, XI and XII, which have suffered the worst.

According to a KMC health department official, the civic body would keep a vigil on the vacant plots that had become major mosquito breeding sites. It will take help of the images sent by drones that were utilized to get an idea about the inaccessible areas of New Alipore, Tollygunge, Behala, Jadavpur, Bansdroni, Baghajatin, Kasba, Mukundapur, Garfa, Patuli and Kalikapur .

According to a KMC health department official, the vector-control team will be assigned to take up special drives in the dengue-prone areas in specific south Kolkata neighbourhoods.

Prabir Mukherjee , a KMC councillor, said he will conduct a special drive well before the onset of the monsoon.

“As Kalighat witnessed the first dengue casualty this year, I need to be extra vigilant,” Mukherjee added.

The special dengue-awareness meeting was attended by health department officials.
