Medha Diwas: Bihar School Examination Board felicitates 64 toppers

Patna: Education department’s additional chief secretary Dipak Kumar Singh on Saturday called upon the students to take inspiration from the life and works of India’s first President Desh Ratna Dr Rajendra Prasad and continue to be life-long learners. “There is no age limit to learn something new in life and one must strive for acquiring skills to keep abreast with the latest technological advancements,” he said.

Felicitating the toppers of Matric and Intermediate examinations of 2022 at the Medha Diwas celebrations at Gyan Bhawan on the occasion of 138th birth anniversary of Prasad, Singh said one can acquire some new technical skills from anyone in the society – a teacher, parent, friend or even juniors. “A person virtually becomes dead the moment he stops to learn,” Singh added.

Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) chairman Anand Kishore announced that the calendar of 2023 Matric and Intermediate examinations to be conducted by the board would be released within a week. He pointed out that for the last four years, the BSEB has been publishing the board exam results much ahead of all other states in the country. “BSEB has also introduced a number of co-curricular activities like crossword, quiz and Olympiad for the all-round development of students’ personality,” he said. Director of secondary education, Manoj Kumar, was also present on the occasion.

Altogether 64 students who secured top 10 positions in Matric and the fourth and fifth positions in arts, science and commerce streams in Intermediate examinations of 2022 conducted by BSEB were felicitated on the occasion. The district education officers of Araria, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Khagaria, Madhubani, Nalanda, Patna, Samastipur, Saran and Vaishali districts, which showed remarkable performance, were also felicitated on the occasion.

The toppers who secured the first rank in their respective examinations got a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each along with laptops and kindle e-book readers. The second and third rank holders were given Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively, in cash. The first three rank holders of arts, science and commerce streams of Intermediate examination had already been awarded prizes by the chief minister on the occasion of Bihar Diwas.

Academic Anant Gangola delivered the Rajendra Prasad memorial lecture. The students of Bankipur Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kilkari Bal Bhawan and Gulzarbagh Girls High School presented a cultural programme on the occasion.

At another function held at Gardanibagh Thakurbari, Nalanda Open University vice-chancellor K C Sinha announced that from the next year all the toppers of NOU examinations would be felicitated on Medha Diwas. Former MLC Ranbir Nandan said the birthday of Rajendra Babu should be celebrated as Medha Diwas all over the country.
