MLA JJ Ebenezer goes door-to-door to hear grievances in Chennai

Chennai: Setting a trend, R K Nagar MLA J J Ebenezer of DMK has started going door-to-door to meet people in his constituency after launching his ‘Ungalai Thedi MLA (MLA at your doorsteps)’ initiative a few days ago.

Speaking to TOI, Ebenezer said he walks and covers 12 streets daily. “I start at 7am and go door-to-door.

I take officials from Metrowater board, city corporation and Tangedco along with me. Residents brief the officials on their issues. If the issue is minor, it’s fixed immediately. I have set a deadline of 10 days for the officials to address the issues,” he said.

RK Nagar constituency largely has housing board tenements, fishermen and labour class population. The MLA said major issues in the area were related to civic amenities, metro water and sewage. “I will follow up to ensure the initiative works fully,” he said.

M Jagan , who lives in Tondiar Nagar, said the issue of sewage mixing with metro water was rampant in the constituency. “The MLA heard our grievances and the Metrowater officials who accompanied him sent in staff immediately to attend the issue. He has also encouraged us to visit his office and give complaints,” he said.

M Bhaskar of RK Nagar said he had issues with elderly pension, bad roads and overgrown trees. “The corporation staff sent in workers to remove the tree after the MLA’s visit. The officials have assured to resolve other issues before January 15,” he said.
