NMC to synchronize 22 traffic signals in city

Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation ( NMC ) has decided to synchronize 22 of 48 traffic signals across the city to ease the traffic flow.

The project is estimated to cost Rs 50 lakh and is to be undertaken with the funds allotted under 15th finance commission.

The existing traffic signals in the city are not synchronized.

Uday Dharmadhikari, superintending engineer of the civic body, said that under the project, traffic signals are to be strategically timed as the group of vehicles arrive from one traffic signal to another signal in a smooth way.

“The move will not only save time but also save fuel for vehicle operators. This will help in streamlining the traffic flow in the city,” he said.

“All the 22 traffic signals identified for synchronization are located on the busy roads like Gangapur, Trimbak, Nashik Road and other roads,” he added.

Moreover, the NMC administration has also decided to install solar panels on public toilets at 113 locations at the cost of Rs 1.5 crore. The project is also to be carried out under the 15th finance commission.

The power generated through solar panels will be given to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL). This will help the civic body reduce its electricity bills. Civic officials said they will prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) in this regard.
