Panchkula bans pitbull, rottweiler as pets

PANCHKULA: The municipal corporation (MC) in its house meeting on Thursday banned keeping pitbull and rottweiler breed of dogs as pets within the city limits while citing example of various cities throughout the world that have taken such a decision.

"The decision was taken after a discussion with councillors.

The two breeds are deadly in nature. Various attacks have been reported on city residents by them," said mayor Kulbhushan Goyal . However, no data of dog bite cases from the two breeds was shared. The MC also decided to impose a fine of Rs 2,000 for not registering pet dogs .


In another decision, a fine of Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 for second offence will be imposed on illegal vendors. The MC also decided to impose a similar fine on licensed vendors not sitting on their allotted site at the street vending zones. Licence will be cancelled if the offence is repeated for third time.

All listed 24 agenda and additional four agenda items raised by councillors were passed during the meeting.

Some of them were constructing community centre and dharamshalas in various villages, re-examination of property tax by private company Yashi Consultancy , 50% off on the booking of community centres by MC employees and closing liquor vends and meat shops in the 2.5 km radius area of the Mata Mansa Devi temple. Similarly, the MC will construct compost pits in all parks, develop comprehensive primary health centres under urban health centre in Sector 28 must be made with the help of the health department and water ATM facility at various public places. Air purifiers will be installed at various locations after examination of the pollution level.
