Punjab vigilance bureau arrests cop, other for 10,000 bribe

Chandigarh: The Punjab vigilance bureau on Thursday arrested a constable and a private person for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 in Amritsar .

Constable Gurdeep Singh, posted as naib subedar in the office of ACP East Amritsar , and Mayur , a resident of Karimpura in Amritsar, have been arrested on the complaint of Sucha Singh of Partap Nagar , Amritsar.

Sucha Singh had alleged that the local police had registered a case against his son and the constable and private person were demanding Rs 15,000 for facilitating a compromise in this case with the complainant but the deal was struck at Rs 10,000. After verification of the facts in the complaint and the material evidence, a VB team arrested the constable and private person for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
