State cricketers rush to register for IPL-style MP League

Indore: With only two days left for state cricketers to register for the inaugural season of Madhya Pradesh League (MPL), players in huge numbers have already registered for state's first cricket league.

However, out of these registered players, a list of 120 players will be prepared by the governing council of MPL falling in three categories.

In the first category, players who have represented MP in Ranji trophy and tournaments of similar repute under the BCCI will be listed, in the second category players who have played at various levels for MPCA and in third category, players who have participated in T20 events for the association will be included.

Not only the players, even the coaches and mentors are being registered through the MPL website.

The MPL T20 for men’s open category is being organized by the Gwalior Divisional Cricket Association (GDCA). With the final list of players, draft system will be used for selecting the teams for each franchise to form their team of 16 players. The franchises will also be able to choose coaches and mentors for their teams from the registered and shortlisted ones.

To be held at the newly built international stadium at the outskirts of Gwalior from June 14 or 15.

The MPL will feature five teams-- Rewa Jaguars, Jabalpur Lions, Bhopal Leopards, Malwa Panthers, and Gwalior Cheetahs.

The MPL will present an impressive roster of both seasoned and emerging players and stars from Madhya Pradesh like Venkatesh Iyer, Rajat Patidar, Avesh Khan, Saransh Jain, Shubham Sharma, Arshad Khan and other cricketers such as Anubhav Agarwal, Yash Dubey, and Harsh Gawli. Cricket enthusiasts can anticipate witnessing an exciting showcase of talent and intense competition.

The MPL cricket matches will be broadcast live on a prominent national television channel and OTT partner at 7pm.

Reportedly, BCCI in the recent years has been encouraging state associations to conduct their own cricket premier leagues for which it had opened an application window 2023. GDCA had taken advantage of that window seeking permission for conducting MPL.

In the last few years, the Tamil Nadu Premier League, Karnataka Premier League and Saurashtra Premier League have gained immense popularity providing a platform to budding players.
