Vehicle scrapping facility in 6 months at Marcaim

PANAJI: A year after the vehicle scrapping policy came into effect, Goa is finally set to witness the establishment of a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility within the state. Transport director Pravimal Abhishek said that the facility is expected to become operational within approximately six months.

In accordance with the guidelines laid down by the ministry of road transport and highways, private entities are empowered to establish vehicle scrapping facilities.
However, the pre-requisite for obtaining a licence entails navigating the single-window system portal. Despite several extended deadlines, Goa struggled to find applications last year. However, this year, one individual has secured the licence and acquired land in Marcaim to commence the facility's setup.

Once operational, the facility will mandate the scrapping of commercial and private vehicles aged over 15 years. As the countdown to the commencement of the facility begins, stakeholders anticipate a streamlined process for retiring aged vehicles within the state.

Currently, approximately 1.9 lakh vehicles in Goa surpass the 15-year mark.
