Torch rally in Kamrup to encourage voters' engagement

Guwahati: The Kamrup district administration launched a torch rally, “Vote Shikha”, on Saturday to boost voter turnout and spread awareness and encourage voter engagement at the grassroots level, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, reports Dhrubajyoti Malakar.

Kamrup district will go to the polls in the third phase on May 7.

From Saturday onwards, the “Vote Shikha” will journey across the district covering all 965 poll stations in Chamaria, Hajo-Sualkuchi, Boko-Chaygaon and Palashbari legislative assembly segments that fall under the Guwahati parliamentary constituency.

Addressing a gathering after the launch, district commissioner Keerthi Jalli emphasized the role of citizen participation in shaping the future of democracy. “Our intention is to create total awareness. We will take this rally to all 965 polling stations and appeal to exercise their voting rights on May 7.
