Congress can't shake strong TOI roots of BJP, says Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai

HAVERI: BJP has strong roots across Karnataka and Congress, “with its small leaves”, cannot shake the saffron party, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said during his Janasankalpa Yatra in his home district of Haveri on Wednesday.

Bommai claimed BJP has the biggest number of workers in the world, and it is led astutely by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “beginning from the booth level up”.
“Moreover, BJP has double engine governments,” he said, insisting Congress will not win the forthcoming as - sembly elections.

In Hirekerur, he lambast - ed former chief minister Siddaramaiah, saying the opposition leader “closed the Lokayukta” to cover up cases that were filed against him. Incidentally, the Lokayukta was never shut although its powers were significantly reduced. “He set up the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB),” Bommai reiterated.

“Now that the Lokayukta’s powers have been restored, we will hand over the 59 cases that were filed against Siddaramaiah during his tenure as CM to the anti-corruption watchdog for investigation. Congress’s face of corruption will be revealed.” He alleged that the government led by Siddaramaiah had been mired in nepotism and corruption.

“They siphoned off money meant for minor irrigation without doing any work,” he said. “BDA, energy and many other departments were mired in corruption. Siddaramaiah should answer for the death of an IAS officer in Uttar Pradesh who was inves - tigating irregularities in supply of PDS rice.”

He also said former MLA UB Banakar joined Congress at the wrong time and called him a “betrayer”. “Despite not being in power, former chief minister BS Yediyurappa made Banakar chairman of Karnataka State Warehousing Corporation. But Banakar has now joined Congress which he had opposed from the beginning.”

He also backed Ramesh Jarkiholi, against whom Congress filed a complaint on Wednesday, in the sex CD scandal, saying “there are betrayers around us”. “The release of the CD was unnecessary. The police had to file a B report for lack of evidence in this case.”
