11k tonnes of minerals seized

Jaipur: The state govt has so far seized 11,225 tonnes of minerals as part of a campaign launched by the mines and geology department on May 1 to stop illegal mining, said Bhagwati Prasad Kalal, director, mines and geology department.

Receiving complaints of illegal mining from districts situated along Banas River during the first and second phase of Lok Sabha elections in the state, the department formed 27 teams, comprising mining department officers and home guard staff, to lodge FIRs and make arrests in these cases.

“These cases peaked in the state when the entire state machinery was engaged in Lok Sabha polls,” said Kalal. Teams were formed for inspection in Tonk, Devli, Kekri (Ajmer), Kota, Bundi, Jhalawar, Bhilwara, Shahpura (Bhilwara), Chittorgarh, Jodhpur, Pali (Sojat), Sirohi, Jalore, Barmer, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Rupwas, etc.
