Bizman pays tribute to his schoolteachers

Madurai: In a heartwarming incident, a 48-year-old businessman from Madurai honoured around 10 of his teachers who taught him from primary school level to higher secondary level to express his gratitude.

Real estate businessman Elankumaran, of Meenakshi Amman Nagar, celebrated his 48th birthday in the company of his schoolteachers on Tuesday.

“I always wanted to thank my schoolteachers for their role in moulding me to who I am today. I’m happy I could finally do so on my birthday. Apart from parents, teachers play important part in lives of children. At some moments in life, they do more for their students than children’s parents,” he said. Elankumaran studied at Appar School at Karuppayurani till high school level and then at American College School for higher secondary school.

Elankumaran invited his schoolteachers to his house and felicitated them with plaques and performed ‘pada puja’(wash their feets) for all of them to pay his respects. He also conducted a feast and served food to them teachers.

“Beyond material offerings, I could express my gratitude only through ‘pada puja’. Respecting teachers was sacred duty during my school days. Despite it being just their duty, teachers went above and beyond to care for and discipline students like me. My teachers were overjoyed to see me and we shared memorable experiences from school days,” said Elankumaran. He hoped that more youngsters would express their gratitude to their teachers through simple gestures.
