CID team attacked in Bharatpur while taking suspect into custody

Alwar/Jaipur: A team of CID Special Branch officials was held hostage and beaten up at a village in Bharatpur district on Saturday after it took a suspect into custody there. A constable and the vehicle driver were injured, and the suspect managed to flee in the ensuing chaos.

When the officials were taking Sanjay Singh alias Sanju Jat, a suspect in a case under probe involving frequent calls to foreign locations, away in their vehicle from Pathaina village, his family members and fellow villagers surrounded the vehicle and attacked the officials with sticks and rods, said a police officer.
The mob also allegedly attempted to set the vehicle on fire, and Singh fled by taking advantage of the chaos, he added.

As the CID Special Branch team attempted to escape, the villagers surrounded the vehicle and launched an assault. The team was led by inspector Roop Narayan Meena of CID's Bharatpur zone, and it included sub-inspector Mohan Bansal, constables Kehri Singh and Virendra Singh, and driver Shri Radhe Meena. Kehri Singh and Shri Radhe were injured.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from Bhusawar police station reached the village and rescued the CID Special Branch team. The police team took a woman into custody from Singh's house, said SHO Sunil Kumar.

"A team of CID Special Branch from Bharatpur zone had gone to Pathaina village in search of a suspect. The team had taken the suspect in custody on the spot. A crowd of villagers, including his family members, gathered there and freed the suspect from the team's custody. The villagers and family members attacked the team. The injured CID personnel are undergoing treatment," said Kumar, adding that an FIR would soon be registered against the suspect's family and their fellow villagers over the attack.
