Kochi: The directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) which seized heroin worth Rs 6.93 crore from a Burundi national on Monday has started an investigation into the racket behind the smuggling of the drugs.

Yvette Nahimana, the woman from whom 990 grams was seized, was remanded on Monday night, and DRI will decide on seeking her custody after primary enquiry.

“A probe is on to find the destination of the contraband. As per her claim, she was set to attend a meeting in Delhi. An investigation is on in this regard. Probe is also on to find other links in the racket behind the smuggling,” said an official source. The woman had reached Kochi from Nairobi, Kenya, via Sharjah.

Sources said that there had been incidents where drugs were brought to Kerala and later transported by road to other cities.tnn
