Bike, car rallies taken out to spread awareness among voters

Ludhiana: To encourage residents to exercise their right to vote on June 1 (voting day), teams of systematic voters' education and electoral participation (Sveep), organised various awareness activities in the city on Wednesday.

The Sveep teams, along with some locals of Gill and Atam Nagar constituencies, formed a human chain and held a bike and car rally to spread voter awareness near Phullanwal chowk.

Regional transport officer (RTO)-cum-assistant returning officer (ARO-Gill) Randeep Singh Heer, Panchayat members of Phullanwal, among others, participated in the awareness events.

The human chain was formed from Phullanwal chowk to Basant City chowk and around 700 residents participated in this awareness drive. The rally commenced from Phullanwal chowk and concluded at Omaxe apartments on Pakhowal road. A voter awareness programme was also organised to sensitise the residents of Omaxe apartments.

Deputy commissioner Sakshi Sawhney said the aim of the district administration was to ensure maximum participation and to ensure more than 70 per cent voter turnout during the Lok Sabha elections.

ARO Randeep Singh Heer said large number of voter awareness activities are being organised across the district under Sveep programme to encourage the voters.

Urging all the eligible residents in the district to enrol themselves as voters, ARO Randeep Singh Heer said they can use 'Voter helpline' mobile application and National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) to register themselves. The residents can also visit www.nvsp.in to register themselves as voters till May 4, 2024, he added.

He added that more such awareness activities would be conducted in the coming days to encourage the voters.
