BJP man attempts to meet Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin with ganja, held

MADURAI: A BJP functionary’s attempt to present chief minister M K Stalin a petition with packets of ganja, highlighting the drug menace, resulted in his arrest by police at Madurai airport on Monday.

The chief minister, accompanied by family members, had arrived at Madurai airport and was en route to Kodaikanal by road.

S Sankar Pandi, BJP state executive council member, arrived at the airport carrying a petition and ganja packets. Suspecting his motives, airport police took him into custody. In his petition, Pandi stated the easy availability of ganja in the state, emphasizing the rising incidence of drug-related crimes in Tamil Nadu.

He was subsequently taken to Avaniapuram police station for further interrogation and is expected to be booked under the NDPS Act for possessing ganja. As it was a personal visit and the election code of conduct remained in effect, no party workers or ministers were permitted to receive the chief minister. Stalin, accompanied by his wife Durga Stalin and relatives, travelled to Kodaikanal via Nilakottai and Batlagundu, arriving later in the afternoon.
