CIMS dean booked for disrespecting BR Ambedkar

MYSURU: Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) dean and director Dr Sanjeev Kumar Reddy has been booked under the provisions of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act 1989, for allegedly disrespecting Dalit icon BR Ambedkar.

He has been accused of abusing Ambedkar in front of four employees of the CIMS.
A complaint was lodged with the Chamarajanagar deputy commissioner by the employees, including three doctors and chief administrative officer, on Thursday. The doctors demanded an inquiry against the director, for allegedly insulting Ambedkar. Based on this letter, BSP district president N Nagaiah filed a complaint against the director with the Chamarajanagar Rural police station.

SP Padmini Sahoo confirmed that a FIR is registered against Dr Sanjeev under provisions of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.

CIMS orthopaedic department head Dr CV Maruthi in his complaint to the CIMS CAO, has claimed that the director allegedly abused Ambedkar in front of him and three others at his office. CAO Manjunath, Dr Girish and Dr Harsha too were present at that time, he claimed. The director abused Ambedkar inside his chamber around 4.45 pm on Thursday, in the wake of the protest by outsourced employees. The director, according to the complaint, used abusive words against Ambedkar, holding him responsible for the protests and such demands.

The letter that fell into the hands of BSP activists, triggered a flash protest in front of the institute. During the protest, angry agitators damaged CIMS director’s car, and threw waste over him, while he was travelling in his car, but police intervened and rescued the director. Police said that Dr Sanjeev has also lodged a complaint against the protesters.
