'Usually the tournament's best team lifts the trophy': Michael Vaughan trolls Mohammad Kaif for terming India best team

NEW DELHI: It's been four days since the World Cup ended, but there is still a fight going on as to which team was the best. Was it India, which won 10 games on the trot, or was it Australia , which lost the first two and then won nine straight games, eventually beating India in the final to lift the trophy?

From fans to former cricketers, everyone is enjoying this battle on social media platforms, and the latest to join the bandwagon is former England captain Michael Vaughan , who on Thursday trolled Mohammad Kaif for terming India as the tournament's best team.

Vaughan is of the opinion that normally the tournament's best team wins the trophy, which was not the case with India, which lost to Australia in the final after performing exceedingly well in the entire tournament before stumbling at the finale.

Reacting to Kaif's remark, Vaughan took to social media platform 'X', formally Twitter, and took a dig at the former India player.

"Usually the tournaments best team lift the trophy at the end of the event," Vaughan posted on X while replying to Kaif.

Kaif on the other hand, is adamant about proving India to be the best team both on paper and on the field.

"Facts: It was Australia's day in final, they won, they are World Cup winners.
More facts: India comprehensively won 10 games, they lost 11th, they had the best bowlers and batters. They were the tournament's best team.
Both facts, on paper and on field. Relax Australia," Kaif posted on X.
