Maharashtra: Suspended MLA T Raja Singh booked

NASHIK: The Shrirampur City police in Ahmednagar have registered an FIR against suspended BJP MLA from Telangana T Raja Singh on the basis of a complaint by a resident, accusing the leader of delivering a hate speech on March 10.

Inspector Harshawardhan Gavali of Shrirampur City police on Wednesday said the FIR was registered against Singh for offences punishable under sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of IPC.

Gavali said Singh was in Shrirampur on March 10 on an invitation from an organisation to deliver a speech on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti.

A large number of people from Shrirampur City and other places had gathered at the venue to listen to Singh, where the latter allegedly delivered a provocative speech targeting a community.

“A resident from the city on Monday lodged a complaint with the police, stating that Singh’s speech could create a rift between two communities,” the officer said. The police were investigating the case and have not yet sent any notice to the leader, he said.
