Police ask for 7-day remand to question Kana again

Noida: Police have filed an application in the district court, seeking a seven-day remand to question rebar-scrap businessman Ravi Kana.

Kana (42), a Greater Noida-based gangster, was arrested along with his friend Kajal Jha (30) from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi following their deportation from Bangkok on Friday.

Noida police had been looking for Kana ever since he was booked in connection with a case of gang rape lodged three months ago. Charges under the Gangster Act were also invoked against Kana and 15 others for allegedly being involved in illegal activities across Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad for over two decades.

Kana and Jha were on Saturday remanded in 14 days’ judicial custody after being produced before a magistrate in Greater Noida. They are currently lodged in Luksar jail. Saad Miya Khan, DCP (Greater Noida), confirmed that police had sought a seven-day remand for Kana.

“The investigating officer in the case has filed an application before the district court in Greater Noida. We want to question him further before filing a chargesheet in court. He will be questioned on his businesses and allegations of extortion,” he added.

Police are yet to seek Jha’s remand. A hearing in the matter is scheduled on Tuesday.
