Bhandaras, shobha yatras mark Ram Navami in Raipur

Raipur: Ram Navami was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the capital city on Wednesday. A large number of people gathered at the Ram temple, where several auspicious programmes, including bhandaras, were performed. Streets were adorned with posters depicting figures of Ram, Sita, and Hanuman, while decorative lights and ribbons added to the festive ambience.

Police platoons were deployed to ensure law and order while devotees offered prayers in and around the Ram temple. After the Rudrabhishek of Lord Shri Ram, Sava Mani Bhog was also offered. The day was filled with various activities and traditions.

Young girls participated in the 'Kumari puja', a ritual during the festival on the temple premises in the morning. During the evening, events like Deepdan, Maha Arti, grand fireworks, and a program by Vrindavan artist Raman Bihari were organized, said Ram Agarwal, one of the members of the organizing committee.

Additionally, the city's Dudhadhari Math and Jaitusav Math adorned Lord Ram with gold, a tradition reserved for important occasions like Vijayadashami, Ram Navami, and Janmashtami. Mahant Ramsundar Das explained that these ornaments, preserved since ancient times, are only displayed to the public during these special events.

Shobha yatras were taken out in various areas of the city, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and devotion of the community. Ram Navami is special this year as the Ayodhya Ram Mandir was inaugurated in January. tnn
