Woman ends life hours after son's arrest with MDMA

Thiruvananthapuram: A 58-year-old woman committed suicide hours after her son was arrested by excise officials with two milligrams of MDMA at Kadinamkulam here on Saturday. Gracy Clement of Shyn House at Santhipuram near Kadinamkulam took the extreme step by hanging self at her house early in the morning. Gracy’s relatives staged a protest in front of the excise office at Kazhakkoottam carrying her body.

Her son Shyn Clement (28) was arrested by excise officials with the contraband on Friday late night and he was released on station bail.

When he was arrested, his parents were informed and his mother had told officers that she had burned 10g of MDMA found from his bag at home on Thursday.

Police said Shyn was part of the mafia gang led by two brothers Shafeeq (26) and Shameer (28), natives of Andoorkonam. They are accused of assaulting the brother of the chief minister’s special private secretary at Vellanad last week. Shyn is an accused in an NDPS case registered at Poojappura police station.
