4 killed, 1 hurt in Ballia accident

Varanasi: At least four persons were killed while another suffered critical injuries in an accident in Phephna police station area of Ballia district on Wednesday night.

According to reports, the accident occurred near a Dhaba in Phephna area on Phephna-Buxar highway (NH-31) around midnight, when an SUV lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle.

The SUV overturned after hitting a tree, following which all of its five occupants sustained serious injuries and later rushed to the district hospital for treatment.

ASP Durga Prasad Tiwari said the deceased have been identified as Ritesh Gond (32), a resident of Tikha village of Phephna area, Raju Yadav (30), Kamlesh Yadav (36), both residents of Barwalia village of Chitbaragaon area, and Satendra Yadav (40), a resident of Siriya Math in Badesar area of Ghazipur district. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

The sole survivor, Chhotu Yadav (32), has been shifted to a hospital in Varanasi and his condition is stated to be critrical.
