Kia to launch compact SUV Sonet in September

NEW DELHI: Kia Motors is set to drive in the entry-level SUV Sonet by September. The new model will take on vehicles such as Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Ford EcoSport.

Kia, a group company of South Korean Hyundai, currently sells Seltos SUV and Carnival MPV in India. Sonet, which is a sub-4 meter SUV, will be priced under Rs 10 lakh, making it the cheapest vehicle from the company.

Kia had started its India business in 2019 with the Seltos model that competes with Hyundai Creta and Maruti S-Cross, among others.

Kia has sold over 1 lakh cars in India since starting sales in August 2019, the majority of which were Seltos. The Sonet will sport both petrol and diesel engines and will come with manual and automatic variants, Kia Motors India MD & CEO Kookhyun Shim said. “The Sonet will be made in India for the world.” In petrol, Sonet will have 1-litre and 1.2-litre engine options, while in diesel it will be 1.5-litre.
