Lok Sabha Election 2024 bank holidays : As the country prepares for the second phase of the Lok Sabha Election 2024 , certain cities will have bank holidays on April 26, 2024. Banks in some cities will be closed because of the Lok Sabha elections , as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar for 2024.

According to an ET report, some states have already announced paid or public holidays for residents on voting day.

The Reserve Bank of India classifies bank holidays into three types: Negotiable Instruments Act Holidays, Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Bank Account Closing Holidays.

Even though the banks in these cities will be closed, customers can still use online banking services . They can handle their banking needs through mobile apps, ATMs for quick transactions, or the banks' websites.

Banks closed in the cities on April 26

Here are the cities where banks will be closed on April 26, 2024, due to the Lok Sabha Election:

- Bangalore
- Kochi
- Thiruvananthapuram
- Jammu

The first phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha Election started on April 19, and the results will be announced on June 4, 2024. Upcoming voting dates are set for May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, 2024. The RBI might declare bank holidays on these days depending on when polling occurs in different states and cities.

The Karnataka High Court stated in a notification that the state government has announced that the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 will be held on Friday, April 26, and Tuesday, May 7, 2024. It has declared these days as public holidays in the corresponding electoral constituencies to allow voters from all state government offices, schools, colleges (including aided educational institutions), and other government-owned organizations to vote.

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 2

The second phase of the general election will cover 89 constituencies across 13 states and Union Territories. Below is a list of the states and their respective constituencies participating in this phase:

- Assam: Karimganj, Silchar, Mangaldoi, Nawgong, Kaliabor
- Bihar: Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Bhagalpur
- Chhattisgarh: Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, Kanker
- Jammu and Kashmir: Jammu
- Karnataka: Udupi Chikamagalur, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, Bangalore South, Chikballapur, Kolar

- Kerala: Kasaragod, Kannur, Vatakara, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Ponnani, Palakkad, Alathur, Thrissur, Chalakudy, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Mavelikkara, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Attingal, Thiruvananthapuram
- Manipur: Outer Manipur
- Madhya Pradesh: Tikamgarh, Damoh, Khajuraho, Satna, Rewa, Hoshangabad, Betul
- Maharashtra: Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Wardha, Yavatmal Washim, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani

In some of these constituencies, public holidays have been declared for the day of the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections. This means that schools in some states will be closed, and some offices will also shut down to allow people to vote.
