Rising temperature in UP: Education department revises school timings in Lucknow

NEW DELHI: With temperatures soaring across Uttar Pradesh, the state's education department is taking action to address concerns about heat-related illnesses. From April 25, schools in Lucknow have adjusted their timings, operating from 7:30 AM to 1 PM for Class 1 to Class 12. This proactive decision aims to safeguard children from the scorching heat, especially considering the reported incidents of heatstroke in different regions.


The Lucknow district administration has changed the timings of all government, aided and private schools up to Class 12 till further orders. District Magistrate Surya Pal Gangwar said that the decision was taken in the larger interest of the students.

On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh government implemented a timing adjustment for all schools operated by the Basic Education Department. As per the directive issued by Special Secretary Yatindra Kumar, the new timings for these institutions are from 7:30 AM to 1 PM.

Following Lucknow's initiative, several other districts in Uttar Pradesh are also revising school timings. District magistrates across different regions are issuing directives to modify schedules for both government and private schools, focusing on classes from nursery to Class 8. In certain districts, schools will run from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM, while in others, classes will extend until 1 PM.
