TS TET registration underway: Syllabus, exam pattern, marking scheme and more

The Telangana Department of School Education has begun the registration process for the Telangana State Teacher Eligibility Test (TS TET) 2024 on its official website at tstet.cgg.gov.in. Eligible candidates can register themselves on the official website of the TS TET 2024 till April 10, 2024.

Last year, in 2023, the TS SET exam saw more than 40,000 candidates registering for the exam, out of which about 31,800 candidates appeared for the exam. The tests were held over a three-day period, beginning on October 28 to 30, 2023, with the results releasing in the month of December 2023.

This year in 2024 however, the exams for TS TET are scheduled for May 20 and June 3, 2024; much earlier than the previous year's date. Consequently, it is expected that the result-release and counselling process will take place sooner compared to last year.

TS TET 2024 Eligibility criteria
The TS TET 2024 will be held in two papers. Both paper 1 and Paper 2 have distinct eligibility criteria as prescribed by the Department of School Education:

  • For Paper I: Candidates must hold an intermediate qualification along with a two-year diploma in Elementary Education or possess a four-year Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.

  • For Paper II: Candidates need to have an undergraduate degree along with a two-year diploma in Elementary Education, a four-year Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, or a two-year Bachelor's degree in Education. Alternatively, candidates can possess a four-year Bachelor's degree in Arts or Science combined with a Bachelor's degree in Education.
TS TET 2024 Exam Pattern
The Telangana State Teacher Eligibility Test (TS TET) 2024 has separate exam patterns for Papers I and II. Paper I, which is administered offline, consists of 150 objective multiple-choice questions that candidates must complete in 2 hours and 30 minutes. The paper includes sections on Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I (available in Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Gujarati), Language II (in English), Mathematics, and Environmental Studies.

Similarly, Paper II is an offline exam that lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes and consists of 150 multiple-choice questions covering subjects such as Child Development and Pedagogy, Language - I (offered in Hindi, Urdu, Bangla, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian, and English), Language - II (in English), and Science and Mathematics/Social Science. Both papers use a similar marking scheme in which each question is worth one mark.

TS TET 2024 Syllabus
The TS TET syllabus assesses a candidate's eligibility to teach grades 1-8 in Telangana. Paper 1 is common for all and covers foundational knowledge in Child Development & Pedagogy, two languages (one regional and English), basic Mathematics, and Environmental Studies. Paper 2 varies depending on the chosen upper primary teaching subjects (grades 6-8) and delves deeper into those specific subject areas. Overall, the TS TET ensures candidates possess a strong understanding of child development, effective teaching methods, and the core subjects they aim to teach.

TS TET Qualifying Marks 2024
To obtain the TET certificate, General category candidates must score 60% on Paper I, which equates to 90 marks. However, for OBC candidates, the qualifying percentage is 55%, which translates to 82.5 marks. Meanwhile, SC/ST and Physically Handicapped candidates must score at least 40% to qualify for the certificate.
