Rishi Kapoor's 4th death anniversary: Did you know that the late actor had a connection with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol's DDLJ?

April 30 is the death anniversary of veteran actor Rishi Kapoor. The movie legend who worked in show business for more than 50 years made a significant contribution to the definition and reshaping of stories and film. It seems like a befitting time to take a look at some trivia from the actor's life as it has been four years since we lost him.

Very few people are aware of Rishi Kapoor's interesting connection with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol's film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. Filmmaker Karan Johar once disclosed that in ‘DDLJ’, SRK had re-worn one of Rishi’s old attires.

Karan Johar's book ‘An Unsuitable Boy’, included an interesting anecdote that connected Rishi Kapoor to the iconic movie ‘DDLJ’. Karan claims that during the DDLJ filming, they helped Aditya Chopra with the costumes and ran into a problem with Shah Rukh Khan's suit for a sequence. It was the scene from the song ‘Na Jaane Mere Dil Ko Kya’ where Kajol imagines SRK saying goodbye to her at her doorstep.

Due to costume budget restrictions, Karan had to get creative as he searched through the vintage clothing hidden in Mumbai studios for an appropriate ensemble. He chose the same renowned red and white sweater that Rishi Kapoor wore in the classic movie ‘Chandni’, which is credited with making sweaters fashionable among males during that time period. Karan Johar chose to repair the item even though it had a tiny hole in it by sewing an emblem on it, which looked really cool to everyone.

Another interesting link between DDLJ and Rishi Kapoor was that they both shared the same character name. As many of you may not know, Rishi Kapoor's name from the 1973 movie ‘Bobby’ served as the inspiration for Shah Rukh Khan's full name in the film, Rajnath.

In May 2019, when SRK was in the US he met the late actor. Rishi’s wife and actress Neetu Kapoor had back then shared a picture with him on Instagram. Along with the picture, she wrote, “To make people feel good about themselves is a rare quality!!! Shahrukh is all of that. His love and care are so genuine !!! besides his amazing work, I admire him as a very good and a real human being.”
