Shivaay, Aashirwad, Ramayan - Decoding the emotional and religious names of Bollywood's lavish bungalow

Mumbai is not just the heart of Bollywood, but also a landscape of luxurious celebrity residences. Actors from all corners of the country have made Mumbai their home, establishing opulent properties that have become iconic landmarks for fans. From Aashirwad to Mannat, these addresses are imbued with deep meanings, blending emotions, religious significance, and sentimental value.

Aashirwad - Rajesh Khanna



In 1970, Rajesh Khanna bought this iconic address for just Rs 31 lakh from another actor, Rajendra Kumar. It was named Dimple then, after Rajendra's daughter. Interestingly, Kaka wanted to keep the same name for the bungalow, but Rajendra Kumar flatly refused as he had already named his Pali Hill bungalow by the same name. Legend has it that Rajesh Khanna went on to name his name as 'Aashirwaad', believing that it was a blessing for him. Interestingly, the late actor's last wish was to remake the iconic bungalow as Vardan Aashirwad, which was done after his demise in 2012.


Prateeksha - Amitabh Bachchan


Amitabh Bachchan stands out as the sole star in B-Town to possess nearly five opulent bungalows in Mumbai. Among his earliest acquisitions, Prateeksha holds a special place, as it was the residence where the legendary actor reportedly lived with his parents - the esteemed poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. Unveiling the story behind its name, Big B once shared, "This name was given by my father" and there is a line in his father's poem which says, ‘Swagat sabke liye yahan par nehin kisike liye Prateeksha'. Interestingly, in 2007, Abhishek and Aishwarya's wedding ceremony took place at this bungalow, sprawled across two plots measuring 890.47 sq m and 674 sq m, with an estimated value of Rs 50 crore. In 2023, reports emerged that Big B had transferred ownership of Prateeksha to his daughter, Shweta, through a gift deed.


Ramayan - Shatrughan Sinha



Shatrughan Sinha's grand multi-storeyed property in Juhu, acquired in 1972, carries a deep religious significance. According to his daughter Sonakshi, "Me and my mother are outsiders in our house as my father and his three brothers are named - Ram, Laxman, Bharat and my father Shatrughan. My brothers are Luv and Kush. So, Ramayan seemed like an apt name for our residence but at times we also get to witness Mahabharat inside Ramayan." Each family member occupies their own floor, complete with a private lift. Recently, Sonakshi renovated her top floor with soft pastel tones. This 10-floor residence boasts a gym, an extensive garage, and numerous other luxurious amenities.


Mannat - Shah Rukh Khan


Shah Rukh Khan owns the most iconic bungalow in Mumbai, which he invested in 2001. Originally named Villa Vienna, the actor decided to re-name it, changing it to Mannat, which means prayer in Urdu. This six-storeyed mansion is spread across 27,000 sq ft and has a vintage charm from outside and is packed with modern interiors. A glass crystal studded name plate announces 'Mannat' at the entry and has become a hot spot for fans to click pictures.


Shivshakti - Ajay Devgn



Ajay Devgn and Kajol own a luxurious haven in Juhu, whose name has a religious inclination. A luxurious entrance announced 'Shivshakti', hinting at the family's devotion towards Hindu lord Shiva. Interestingly, Ajay also has an intricate Shiva tattoo on his chest. Spread across 2,493 square feet, Shivshakti has numerous floors and boasts of wooden interiors.


Krishna Raj - Ranbir Kapoor



In 1980, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor inherited this bungalow, which was named after the former's mother Krishna Raj. It holds great sentimental value for the Kapoor khandaan, it is also the place where Ranbir and Riddhima spent their childhood. In 2016, Rishi and Neetu intiated plans to reconstruct it, but due to several reasons, it was delayed. The bungalow is currently under construction, with Ranbir and Alia planning to move in with their daughter Raha soon. Buzz is that the property is priced at Rs 250 crore, due to its strategic location and size, however there is no confirmation about the same.
