Animal lovers across the city gathered at a popular multiplex on Sunday evening to mark the 12th National Animal Rights Day (NARD) to raise awareness about animal rights and bring an end to their suffering.
The volunteers unveiled a declaration of animal rights, pronouncing the rights of all animals. The declaration was read in multiple languages to support the rights of animals. As part of creating awareness, volunteers enacted a couple of skits, raised slogans and sang for the visitors at the multiplex.
Director Sashi Kiran Tikka and actress Sadaa Syed joined the volunteers at the event. “Although I was born in a family that consumes meat and animal products, I turned vegan to do my bit to protect the rights of animals. They can’t speak for themselves, so we must stand up and be their voice,” Sashi Kiran Tikka said. Echoing his views, Sadaa said that it’s the duty of every individual to stand up for animals.
“There are a lot of means by which animals are being abused at this moment; it is our duty as a human to speak up for them. Animal rights should be considered as important as human rights,” Sadaa said.
